Making Your Relocation Easier

If you're making the move to the Miami-Dade County area, then congratulations! With so many unique neighborhoods and beautiful homes, life here is truly one-of-a-kind. While there's a lot to look forward in your new home, the moving process can be pretty overwhelming at times. Luckily, our team is here to make things as simple and stress-free as possible!

Take a look at our top tips for streamlining your moving and packing process, and give us a call if you have any more questions.

Before You Move

If you wait until the last minute to start packing, then you're going to put yourself in quite the time crunch. Plan ahead for your move, and it'll make things ten times easier!

Organize and declutter

Starting with the rooms you use the least, start going through each space one room at a time, figuring out what you can get rid of what can get packed right away.

Lighten the load

From yard sales to online marketplaces to thrift stores and more, there are plenty of ways to downsize your possessions—and it's never a bad idea to have fewer things to pack!

Change your address

It will take a few weeks for the post office to register your change of address and start forwarding your mail, so be sure to get that done well beforehand.

Handy Packing Tips

  • Reinforce: Gather sturdy boxes, packing peanuts, bubble wrap, and packing tape so you can rest easy knowing that your things are secure.
  • Innovate: Pack dishes, bowls, plates, and other glass objects vertically, and use spare clothing as padding for more fragile items.
  • Pack small: Don't overload your boxes with heavy items, since it'll make hauling them in much harder.
  • Prevent leaks: Take tops and covers of off soaps, shampoos, and lotions with cling wrap, then twist the caps back on. You can also use cling wrap around dresser drawers or jewelry displays to keep them from getting jostled around.
  • Prepare: Create an "Open Me First" box with things you'll need right away, like towels, sheets, dishware, and more. Make sure it's towards the top of the pile, so you can grab it right away.
  • Label, label, label! Be sure to mark you boxes based on the room they belong in. It'll make unpacking so much easier, and your future self will thank you!

On Moving Day

Finally, after all of that preparation, moving day has arrived. Here's what you should do to make sure everything goes smoothly!

Keep important info

Bring a small backpack filled with important things like first aid supplies, medication, financial records, medical records, IDs, and other important documentation or high-value items.

Take an overnight bag

Whether you're using a moving truck or getting in too late to unpack everything, it's not a bad idea to bring an overnight bag with a change of clothes, chargers, and anything you might want.

Have phone numbers handy

For those who do opt for professional movers, keep the foreman's content information with you in case you need to contact your movers for any reason. It's also handy to have your Bill of Loading and shipment registration number with you.

After You Move

Clean first

Take advantage of the totally empty space in the home, and clean every crack, corner, and hidden crevice before you move your stuff in.

Unpack by room

Similar to the packing process, start unpacking by working room by room, starting with the spaces you'll use the most.

Enjoy your new home

Buying a home is a big deal, and you're finally wrapping up the process. Take some time to kick back, relax, and enjoy your new place!
